Dr. David Stringham, Dean Of the Fredonia School Of Music Has Died
The Fredonia College of Music, Theatre, and Dance is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. David Stringham, our newly appointed Dean. Dr. Stringham, who recently suffered a stroke, was not only a distinguished academic and administrator but also a beloved member of our community. He had been volunteering with us as a banjo player, and two of his sons are part of our group, reflecting his lifelong passion for music and family.
Most recently, Dr. Stringham served as the Executive Director of the Office of Creative Propulsion at James Madison University. Since 2010, he contributed significantly to JMU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, co-founding the Center for Inclusive Music Engagement and serving as its founding director. His work was supported by numerous grants from prestigious institutions such as the National Endowment for the Arts.

A native of Western New York, Dr. Stringham was an alumnus of the University of Rochester and a former New York State public school music teacher. He was known for his dedication to music education and community engagement. His family and friends are in our thoughts, and we ask for prayers and positive energy as they navigate this difficult time.
