Janice Lopez, Identified As Uber Driver Killed In Tragic Chain-Reaction Crash Gaston County
A devastating four-car chain-reaction crash in Gaston County resulted in the death of an Uber driver and critically injured three others on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. along Gaston Day School Road, just north of Duke Street in Gastonia.
Authorities identified the victim as 53-year-old Janice Lopez, who was working as an Uber driver at the time. Lopez’s vehicle was involved in the collision that caused significant damage among the four cars. Emergency services responded promptly, but Lopez succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Investigators stated that the crash was initiated by a 19-year-old driver traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. According to reports, the young driver lost control of his vehicle, leading to the chain-reaction collision. The impact caused several vehicles to collide and resulted in critical injuries to three other individuals, whose identities have not been disclosed.
