70-Year-Old Man Killed, Wife Hospitalized After A Violent Home Invasion In Murrieta

A tragic incident unfolded in Murrieta, California, when a 70-year-old man, Bob Brink, was killed, and his wife, Cynthia Polsgrove, was hospitalized following a violent home invasion. According to police reports, a stranger armed with a knife and screwdriver entered their residence early Wednesday morning.

Family members retraced the events, describing the scene as horrifying. Jesse Camacho, the grandson of the victims, expressed deep sorrow, saying, “It was a crime scene in here, man. It’s just sad. We saw the blood everywhere.”

Murrieta Police identified the suspect as 36-year-old Manuel Arturo Alvarez. Authorities say he sneaked in through the back door around 8 a.m. and attacked Brink with a knife before stabbing Polsgrove with a screwdriver in the adjacent room. Remarkably, Polsgrove managed to call 911 despite being injured. She reported that Alvarez had fled the scene.

Police quickly responded, deploying a K-9 unit that located and arrested Alvarez within 40 minutes. While Polsgrove survived, Brink succumbed to his injuries. Camacho described his grandfather as “a good, hard-working man,” emphasizing his caring nature.

Police believe Alvarez acted randomly, and authorities suspect he was under the influence of drugs. Camacho warned residents, “Don’t think you’re safe anywhere because anything can happen to anybody at any time.”
