Dalyn Elder, Augusta Man Dies Five Weeks After Shootout With Deputies
Dalyn Elder, a 20-year-old resident of Augusta, Georgia, died Tuesday morning at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center, more than five weeks after being critically injured in a confrontation with Richmond County deputies. Elder was involved in a shootout during an attempted arrest following an armed robbery at a local gas station.
According to authorities, deputies responded to the scene of an armed robbery at the BP gas station located at 3011 Washington Road shortly after midnight on October 2. While conducting a sweep of the area, a deputy spotted a man running who matched the description of the suspect. The man was later identified as Elder.
During the encounter, a gunfire exchange occurred, resulting in Elder sustaining critical injuries. He was transported to the hospital and remained in critical condition until his death. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen confirmed Elder’s passing and announced that an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details about the events leading up to the shootout..
