Man Killed In Wrong-Way Crash In Interstate 49 Southbound Near Gilliam Identified
SHREVEPORT, La. – The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has identified Anthony Barone, a 47-year-old man from Vivian, as the victim of a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred late Friday night.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. on Interstate 49 southbound near Gilliam, involving two vehicles: Barone’s dark SUV and a white pickup truck. According to authorities, Barone’s vehicle entered the interstate traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, creating a dangerous situation.
Deputies responding to the scene reported that the SUV collided head-on with the pickup truck, resulting in fatal injuries to Barone. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated for injuries and is expected to recover. The incident remains under investigation, with authorities working to determine the factors that led to Barone’s wrong-way entry onto the interstate.
