Jed Steele, the legendary California winemaker behind Steele Wines, Shooting Star, Stymie, and Writer’s Block, left an indelible mark on the wine industry. His winery, established in 1991, quickly gained fame in the rural county just north of Napa and Sonoma, rising to prominence with exceptional wines and a passionate vision. Before founding his namesake winery, Steele spent nine years as the head winemaker for Kendall-Jackson, helping to craft some of America’s most beloved Chardonnay.
Sadly, Jed Steele passed away on October 31st. His legacy extends beyond his remarkable wines; he was known for his generosity, mentorship, and unwavering dedication. His influence played a vital role in the creation of Northstar Winery, fostering a new generation of winemakers, including his mentee Merf.
