It is with heavy hearts that we remember Mike Newland, a beloved colleague and shareholder at Wood & Thomson Engineering. Mike was a true character—his humor, skill, and friendship left a lasting impact on everyone he knew. As a dedicated team member, he contributed not only his expertise but also a warmth that fostered camaraderie within our company.

Mike’s life was marked by his zest for adventure and love for family. In the weekends before his diagnosis, he was enjoying moments of joy—sailing in the Marlborough Sounds with his family, taking James and friends biscuiting in Lyttelton Harbour, and relaxing with cocktails at their bach in Little Akaloa. His spirit was vibrant, embracing life fully until the end.

After a courageous battle of nearly two years with aggressive bowel cancer that had spread to his liver and lungs, Mike passed away following thirteen days at hospice. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Lamb & Hayward Oaklands Halswell, 500 Wigram Road, Halswell, at 2.30pm on Thursday, 13 November. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends, remembering Mike as a cherished part of our team and lives.
