An inquest has revealed that Stephen Charles Mayger, a 66-year-old man from Knighton, was found dead at his home with injuries, but these injuries were not the cause of his death. The inquest, held at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court on November 10, concluded that Mr. Mayger likely died due to alcohol misuse.

Mr. Mayger, a retired wildlife reserve manager born in St Helier, Jersey, on March 27, 1956, was discovered deceased at Barclay House, 6 Church Street, Knighton, on March 10, 2023. Authorities found no evidence of third-party involvement at the scene.

The investigation into his death considered his medical history, which included alcohol dependence. Area Coroner Patricia Morgan emphasized that the injuries observed were not causative. The inquest findings suggest that alcohol misuse was the primary factor leading to his death.

The case highlights the ongoing issues related to alcohol dependency and its potentially fatal consequences. Mr. Mayger’s death underscores the importance of awareness and support for individuals struggling with alcohol addiction.
